A 40+ year old metal tradesman will have an extensive knowledge of all the metal trades plus engineering drawing, trade maths, and engineering machine shop calculations. He will have nearly thirty years experience if he started an apprenticeship at 16.

I would back these types of worker to be better industrial teachers than someone who did a teaching degree and doesn't have the hard won knowledge of an experienced tradesman.

i think the problem is that just because someone has all that knowledge does not mean that they will be able to teach it.
so someone who has just done their degree might teach better so overall may be better.

Mines now have so many people to choose from if you haven't worked a mine site before you just won't get in...

What are you studying now?

And if you are considering becoming a Primary School Teacher - better brush up on your basic English.

Example: There is no such word as "yous" (in one of the other posts)

maybe i would, have you ever heard of the its not what you know it's who you know.
Tombie I am doing primary and high school teaching and yes i do make mistakes still when writing, I am still trying to break a few habbits.

And there are people with teaching degrees who can't teach. They are good at passing exams and as interviewees but can't teach.

I totally agree with that as well. I am sure that they will soon find out or others around them will find out if they can not teach.
