D3 vs Commodore ute: And the winner is.....

Have been reading AULRO for a few months now but this is my first post...

Had a similar thing happen to me just before Christmas, only a few days after picking up my new pride and joy ('05 D3 TDV6 S with Terrain Response).

A Ford Courier ute rolled down a slope in a car park into the back of my D3. Silly bugger left his handbrake off. The Ford copped a major ding in the front bumper. D3 came off with only a few scratches to the rear bumper and the bottom of the LH rear panel...

...Still cost his insurer $3,500 to fix the D3 though :eek:

That's the beauty of full comp, hey Mark.

You still get your car fixed regardless, and Mr Dunnydore can work out some sort of lifetime payment plan with your insurance company.

Unless they are feeling generous and let him off:twisted:

You need to be carefull when leaving the tow hitch in. As it can be claimed that it increased the amount of damaged done to the other car. (not in this case ) NSW law says that tow hitches must be removed when not in use.
It could also move the impact forces into the chasis, instead of being absorbed by the bumper.

I had a similar thing happen last year when a young tradie in a Commode ute ran into the back of our D1 while we were stopped at a red light. Stove the front of the Commode in, but only a scratch on the Disco's bumper. The impact shifted the Disco forward a couple of inches, so I think that absorbed the impact. The scratch has white paint from the Commode so it didn't buff out. Young lad said he was looking at a street guide as he rolled up to the lights. Reckoned his boss would kill him.
Good thing I didn't have the tow bar in or he would have lost his fan and radiator.
And people wonder why we feel safer in 4WDs...

Yup, done that to same model commodore with my defender. Broke the plastic cover on my towbar:mad:

My insurance company told me that only in a tailender is the vehicle behind 100% in the wrong;) A woman driver in a Volvo(naturally) came through a Give Way sign and wrote our old FIAT off and we only got 85% of value because we were 'part of the accident':mad:

I heard about a five car pileup caused by a woman running up the back of a car which ran into the next car which ... etc. Apparently the woman who statred it was the only person charged. Can't see how an insurance company could justify not paying up 100% for the others. I'd sue them if they tried that on me.

I do the legal fallout of nose to tails for a living....it is not always the case that person behind is always entirely to blame if that is what you are suggesting matey.

PS. I had a NM Pajero hit the back of my D2 one day....well I needed to wipe a scratch off my rear stock bar and staighten out my spare wheel carrier ...and the Pajero was severly damaged

No. The bit hanging down is one of the plastic brackets that hold the bottom of the bumper in place.
