    Weather in the High Country

Can anyone give me an update as to how the weather has been in the High Country for the last few weeks? Are the tracks dry/wet?

I am a couple of weeks away from my trip.

End of January they were dry and dusty. Given they have had rain down there in the last couple of weeks they are probably wet now. Depends exactly where you are going as to how things are too.

    Have a good trip

Depends on which part - the "High Country" is a big area. Can you give us some idea of the area and tracks you want to use ?
The tracks in many places have been wet but will be even wetter after this weeks rains. Depending on what follows, they could dry out real quick or stay sloppy for a while.
Depending on when you're actually hitting the area, it can also turn much colder during March. We've camped in snow in early April, just up past Mansfield.

Just trying to get a feel for the area but generally the trip will start through the Haunted Stream track, will travel from there through to Waterford (The caravan Park), do the Bassalt Knob track, to Zeka Spur track into Wonnangatta for a couple od days, out through Rileys track into Abbeyard, Speculation, Pineapple flat, Craigs Hut area through Bindarrie to Sheepyard flat and then to Bendigo to see SWMBO son, to SA to see SIL and home.

Did haunted stream at New years, 54 crossings. 2 nights rain & over 7omm had the river rise a little but no probs. You should b e right with that 1, havent been in to Wanangatta for many years now, so I,ll leave that 4 someone else to comment on.

At the moment I would say unpredictable. Too many thunderstorms going through with wind and lots of 'localised' rain.

I was up at Mt Hotham on Wednesday & it was warm & dry. A mate came up from Dargo in his commodore & had a great run.
That was in the morning.. By afternoon a huge storm came through, lightening pounding rain etc. No doubt the next day it was fine again.
Time & again I've gone over tracks that were OK & river crossings that were fine to come back a few hours later to raging torrents & tricky tracks.
Thats the High Plains for you

A good thing to take on board is that the tracks that get a soaking can be quite different -ie dried out, 3-4 hours later & a lot more easily travelled.
But if you get in to a valley with clay surfaced tracks going in/out & it won't stop raining, you have a problem. ( unless you have 2x diff locks & super swamper type tyres)
