    Land Rover sinks Kayak dream.

The Land Rover gods must have it in for me. Every time a bloke thinks he is getting a head financially the Land Rover wants more cash thrown at it. This time its the fuel pressure regulator. While I was cleaning the car from this past weekends trip to a mates property I noticed diesel dripping down the bell housing.

It has blown my fishing kayak's budget SWMBO was keen to go and purchase the new yak soon. That has now changed thanks to the green oval.
This could nearly spell the end of my association with Landys. I have lost all confidence with the Defender. Its getting out of hand, can I never just pay for a regular service without having to shellout for what seems to be endless extra expenses.

Surely there is more to life than spending all my cash on keeping this car on the road.

Thanks for listening just had to let off some steam.
Untill next the next bill see ya.

I feel for you, having gone through similar. Trouble is, it can happen with any vehicle.

Check that is not just an o ring. I thought the same and it was only an o ring available from most auto parts shops.

Dave, something else that you should factor in to the equation is total cost of ownership. IE... depreciation. Defenders are renowned for having very good resale. So, while you are definitely having a bad trot with the repairs at least when you do eventually sell your car you'll get more for it than you would a jap car.

My car is an 05 like yours, and I only service it once a year with MR and do an oil change myself half way. Since going out of warranty I've only spent 50 bucks on between service parts and one pair of rear pads in service.

    Dave,
What CraigE said. I'm sure I've seen a blow by blow description complete with photo's on this site somewhere. Had the same problem with SWMBO's D2 engine. Cost around $400 - $500 to get the LR dealer to fix. Pity I didn't find the info here earlier, it even gives part numbers for the O rings and doesn't apear to be a major exercise to fit. Made a significant difference to performance when repaired.

I know that feeling so well.

My car is ten years older than yours and stuff needs doing, it's the way it is. Still cheaper than $65K for new one on warranty. Last thing that happened was the car was broken into and Ive paid $370 to the car window people to make a complete stuff up of the job and it's going in to the Landy people to be re-done properly. Not the car's fault it was broken into, or is getting old, but sheesh! It's depressing sometimes.

X2 just do the o-rings yourself. It will cost you no more than $4 and couple of hrs .Possibly saving a few hundred.
If it turns out to be the reg. They can be bought for about $325 and you already know how to do it!

Yes. You're right. You should never have thought of doing anything different. We are all the damned and our penance is to forever maintain these failing machines. Sure beats rolling a rock up a hill though.

Your car knows you well and it is a jealous goddess. For even contemplating another activity in which it was not the centre of attention you are being punished. So just accept your fate.

hahaha you really think she will let you? You poor deluded man. Have you not seen Christine? She will hunt you down and you and your loved ones will all pay

There was, but that was before you succumbed to temptation.

Now there is nothing for you my man but madness and the sure knowledge that from here on in, you will be poor. Mad and poor.
