I suspect that the id plate you're referring to is the compliance plate under the bonnet. Mine is similar, giving the date of 3/99.

However you need to check the VIN number to get the actual manufacturing date. Check sites such as:

Famous Four - Identifying your Land Rover or Range Rover by it's VIN Number (1980 onwards)

For the record, mine was actually built in 1998.
