    Overlander 4wdoty.... Are they Kidding?

This may be old news but.... I just read O'lander and I just cant believe it....they picked a bloody UTE over a Disco4, RRS and 2 Playdo's.
They really have lost the plot here surely?
How can you have a Dual Cab ute up against the 4 best touring 4wd's in the country (world?). AND THEN HAVE THE DUAL CAB WIN!
Gimme a break O'lander, I thinks you need to rethink your judgement criteria just a tad.

Reminds me of an episode of Just Minister.

Sir Humphrey................."An enquiry? What! (agahst) You never hold an enquiry without knowing what the result will be. Thats what terms of reference are for."
You could probably have a Subaru Tribeca win if you had the main criteria... "ugliest vehicle in the world".
Probably got more to do with their sponsors/advertisers than anything else.

A rather meaningful insight as to the magazine's relevance I would think

The thing with 4WDOTY is that the vehicles are NOT compared to each other. They have set marking criteria and categories that they are judged on individually - and a lot of it is to do with new developments, in this case the Triton has developed a lot since the previous model and now leads the ute market in a lot of areas, whereas the D4 hasn't changed as much comparatively to the outgoing D3, or added anything paticularly new and revolutionary - and in terms of 4x4 ability, the judges had trouble with the tyre and rims on the D4 - minimum of 18 inch and low profile tyres...

IF they were looking for the best 4x4, then I think they got it very wrong, but thats not what 4WDOTY is about, and I think they came to a valid decision based on their criteria.

    I was waiting for this

    I have actually purchased one

Look at value for money, reliability, warranty, safety, performance, fuel consumption, practicality etc

And it has Ox cart springs and drum rear brakes

Was a strange comparison though as I don't see how a 50K truck can be compared to a sub100k rocket.

They're all different animals for a different application.

I do think the MN has it over the other duel cabs how ever.

Certainly nothing wrong with the MN in it's class, and I agree with your summation.
Initially I took it as a direct comparison also, which would have been ludicrous, but it looks like Seano may have clarified that issue.

My only problem with this win was how did it beat the Prado, the D4 I understand because of the rim and tyre failures, but the Prado

I have driven the new Triton (we have them at work) and the vague steering and terrible ride from the rear leaf springs has got to be against it compared to the coils/airbags on the Prado
