ORICOM..... Any good?
In the market for a new UHF. Who has used Oricom, any complaints? They seem like reasonable value.
I know this thread will open up the GME, Uniden, Icom debate (bit like Waeco/engel). But please...tell me if Oricom are any good.

Hi Wardy 1.
I had a couple of Oricom 3watt 40 ch UHF portables for a couple of months until they were pinched from my Landy when I was in Shepparton for the day.
The portables gave good reception for about a kilometre in bushland, and got fuzzy after that range was exceeded, battery life (3 AAA's) depended on how often you transmitted, but with constant use lasted about 3 hrs, and much longer if you only monitored the frequency and transmitted occasionally.
I have had no experience with Oricom in dash radios (do Oricom even make them?).
Hope this helps.
A.J.
