Huh?
Locksmiths have had scanning devices for years that can recognise keys and cut a copy.
Barrenjoey Locksmiths have an italian device which has all? manufacturers key codes stored (for BMWs at least.) I took my new BMW key to them as the BMW records were wrong. They put the key in the machine and found the code, but it would not work my ignition.
I then gave them my old key which worked and they then recut the new key correctly, as it was only a small difference to the tip of the key. This was all in the same purpose built machine which was hybrid mechanical/computerised.
Seeing the "new" device only works for Ford keys I don't see how it is vastly different although it is a lot more portable so easier for someone in a car park to steal the profile!!.
One wonders about progress sometimes.
