Have you checked the RAAF out??? Only saying because a mate of mine is in the RAAF and he loves it there. Just a thought.
So, for a few reasons, such as fitness and skills acquisition, I'm thinking of joining the army reserve.
A few questions I can't seem to find answers for are:
Where/when in Brisbane are weekly meetings/training held?
What sort of things do you do at this training?
Are there any other reservists on here?
How much choice do I have in what field I join?
I rang the recruitment office, but they didn't/couldn't tell me much and instead kept trying to put me through the recruitment process.
Can anyone enlighten me somewhat?

Why would you want to join the Army reserve - strange bunch of people.
They wear caps inside, stomp their feet, salute inside and do all sorts or weird things - like exercise in the mornings and then get stuck into cream puffs at mornos - sort of defeats the purpose of the morning runs.
Join the Navy Reserve - there is a big branch in Brissy and they are normal.

The RAAF is where you want to be! (But perhaps I'm biased)
Anyway - let me know if I can help.
cheers,

I have been associated with the military for over twenty years now, going onto 29 yrs both Regular 13 years 304 days ( I wasn't counting) and the rest in different reserve units. I have been in Infantry and RAEME in the regulars and RAEME, in the Reserves.
Last year I transfferred to RAAF reserves and honestly if i has joined them in 1981, I would probaly would have still been there as as regular.
Saying that most Army reserve Units parade on a Tuesday night and one weekend a month. In the RAAF they give you an amount of training days ( i have 32) and depending on your unit you can parade anyday of the week for a minimum of 3 hours.
If you like your weekends then RAAF reserve is the way to go. You need to go to a Reserve recruitment officer not a regular one as there is still the us and them factor. Good luck. BAz( i stand corrected if any information is wrong or I start an inter service slanging match. That is not my intention just my Opinion)

the RAAF.....depends on how far you want to drive
i'm still doing reserves, em at 9RQR 'first ashore'
i'm guessing your work has a reasonable military leave policy, you can join and parade as a visitor, pretty sure you get some pocket change for turning up while you wait for your recruit course, wonder how long it is these days for chocko's, then you will get a little bit more money while your wait for your iet course then you will get some more money.........oh and its all about the money
i will find out if our unit still has recruiter at enoggera, if they do i can meet you there but pretty sure you will need to drop into the main gate at enoggera, you could consider caboolture, it may be quicker and easier to get your foot in the doorWhere/when in Brisbane are weekly meetings/training held? tues nights, enoggera
What sort of things do you do at this training? depends on which corps you join, most young fellas only do a 3hr night, 7pm - 10pm. at my unit the grunts do PT first up and then onto lessons, weapon drills, work parties etc
Are there any other reservists on here? er, yep me
How much choice do I have in what field I join? umm, i like to say you would have heaps but recruiting will probably push you in the direction where they have the greatest shortage of diggers. if you were a tradie than RAEME 'royal australian easy money earners' would be the go....however if you are happy humping a pack and shooting things then grunts would be the go, if not there is always medical, stores, transport, sigs etc. i would be asking how long are the iet courses (the courses you need to be fully qualified in your job)
I rang the recruitment office, but they didn't/couldn't tell me much and instead kept trying to put me through the recruitment process. unfortunately, from memory, unit in enoggera no longer have there own recruiting cell, its all done centrally, i am also guessing it will be a slow process and you will just have to grin and bear it, i doubt it would be straight forward
