    Newbie here!!!

    hey all,

    Just joined the forum recently as i'm thinking of becoming a landrover owner. I've done some searches for the questions i have without any results of interest.

    Appreciate if someone is able to answer a few questions of mine....

    1) How does the auto go in intense 4wd situations compared with a manual?
    2) Can the discovery 4 make it into Bendethera via the most difficult route (not snowball or moruya)?
    3) What is the size of the fuel tank for the 3.0l diesel?
    4) How much can i get a 3.0l Diesel on the road with;
    a) Active rear diff;
    b) auto high beam assist;
    c) metallic paint;
    d) Navigation;
    e) audio system with 9" speakers.

    The local dealer seems to be giving me static in terms of price.

    Help!

    Hi Bluevein. I am relatively new but can save you some time, You will most likely get flooded with replies. I am guessing you are looking at the purchase of a D4.
    First up, look up "CHANNELS " on this forum index, and select D3/D4 Zone. Check out the FAQ section at the beginning of the Channel, and a good part of what you need to know is all there.There is even a link to the Owners Handbook if you wish to download.

    The ZF AUTO used in the D3/D4 has all of the advantages of an auto and none of the disadvantages that were common in 4Wd's a few years ago. Coupled with the terrain response, the auto is a killer combo

    No idea where ' Bendethera' is, but I doubt there is anywhere you cannot take the D4 with suitable rubber and driving skills.

    The manual states the fuel tank is 82 litres for diesel engined D4's. One of the few deficiencies in the D3/D4 specification. See the FAQ again for aftermarket sub tank options. ( you have to remount the spare wheel )

    Base pricing should be on the Landrover site. Take the E diff. ( $1060.00 option ) It cannot be retrofitted. The high beam assist has drawn a fair bit of comment. Check out the threads before making up your mind. You do have to order the Bi-Xenon headlights before adding the high beam assist.

    Hi beam assist is $400.00 extra

    Metallic paint is $1800.00 extra

    The nav system is $4430.00 ( std on HSE )

    Std audio has 9" speakers. You can option up at increased cost

    If you go for the 3.0 lt HSE, some of what you are looking at is std spec.

    Hope this helps. Welcome to the forum.

    I suppose you mean via Dry Creek FT, Merricumbene FT and then Bendthra FT, if so, then yes , I travel down there very often, I live in Moruya Heads, where are you from, Regards Frank.

    Thanks Admiral - I checked out the FAQ section and there is lots of useful information there. Thanks very much for the tip :-)

    In terms of my price question, I am aware of the "retail" prices Land Rover dealers are quoting for models and accessories, but I'm more interested in the deals people are getting on their new purchase.

    Anyone got some great bargains they are prepared to share with us all?

    Hi Frank - Thanks for your post. You've given me the confidence that the Discovery 4 is an unbeatable machine to be able to tackle some fairly extreme terrain. I have a property bordering the Tinderry ranges in Burra.

    Yeah but it looks to me like you can load topographical maps into the GPS. I'd rather have it all built in and pay the equivalent GDP of a small country to have it installed, than to get one of those dodgy suck-tion-cup units that go flying everytime i go over a bump.

    Oh thanks Frank for your offer. I might take you up on that.

    So my other question..... Is everyone paying retail for their Disco 4?
