One of my customers is a recently retired crack mechanic. He has Parkinson's of the severely shaky fingers type. Not sure if he was popular at his job or not.

I have a mate who is a gynaecologist - describes himself as a "crack mechanic". He's on pretty good money too.

Could be worse, trying operating from the other end.....as a Colo-rectal surgeon and rummaging around in other peoples bums. I suppose you could give it the "sniff" test. Jokes aside, I have recovered from bowel cancer and those blokes do a job that I wouldn't want to have!!

Money might be OK however not so sure about handling the job as Dentists have the highest rate depression and suicide of any profession.

Am not a Dentist myself as know I could not handle it or for that matter any of the medical professions.

Financial year 2005-6 I had two implants installed and an existing bridge replaced plus some other minor bits and pieces. Spent $9000 on dentists that year. I had a temporary plate for three months whilst the bone graft associated with the implants was taking up. I decided that whatever it cost, it was worth every cent if it meant not having to go through the rest of my life with a denture.

I once worked with a fellow we christened "The Gynaecologist". He used to tell the clients that he "would look into it".

Dentists are also one of the most expensive businesses to own/operate with respect to overheads, all that equipment doesn't come cheap.

For the record, Veterinary Surgeons and Psychiatrists tend to swap the lead with respect to suicide; Vets because they can, shrinks, well I'll leave that up to you.

Few years ago I saw a modern dentist's chair go through an auction of ex-military equipment for $180.

Next dental appointment I told my dentist as he used an identical chair. He nearly dropped his drill and mirror with shock. He said his chair cost $10,000.

I never wanted to be a Gynaecologist but I was and to this day remain...
