We've got a couple nested just out of town...
Fantastic creatures....
It is funny, I am an active member of 2 international nature photography forums, every day the americans post a photo or two of their Bald eagle but you never see an australian post a photo of our wedge tailed eagle
Perhaps we are taken for granted to many things of our wild life here![]()
Maybe it is more to do with American patriotism???
Personally, I have never snapped a good photo of one, because (a) I never have the long lens on the SLR while driving, and (b) they are usually shy - except for one pair chowing down on a roo in the middle of the road who didn't notice until we were almost on top of them.
Doesn't look it from the pics, but this one stood >1m tall.
Pics taken on Canon IXUS 50.
I think the reason is that for many years they were wrongly blamed for taking lambs. When I was a lad out western Queensland they had a bounty of 5 pounds per head.Because of being shot willy nilly they are naturally wary and very shy and of course their range has been depleted because many areas have been destroyed and with that their natural prey by so called "Progress"
