Navman MY60T, Win CE, Hema Maps and other mysteries

    Okidoke,

Looking to replace my Garmin Etrex as I can't read it anymore without my glasses.

I want something around 5" that'll do street nav and display 4WD maps, preferably Hema raster maps.

    The above rules out Garmin.

Doing some research I see the Navman MY60T, 65T and 75T are Win CE 6.0. (Navman Gets Updates On The Go | CyberShack)
.............and that are soon to offer Hema maps.Lonely Planet Travel Guide - Australia

I also see that Navman GPS' can be unlocked to allows access to Win CE.

Just wondering what the AULRO GPS gurus think of this?????

I've tried to follow the threads on the el cheapo Chinese GPS units but to be honest, it sounds like a lot of work!

    Cheers.

the Chinese ones are quite easy really. You simply point the GPS button on the main menu to run new menu software (which I can supply) and then road and off-road options appear. More than happy to do it for you even, given you're a silver subscriber

WhiteD3 - I'm also interested in getting one of the Chinese units - but prefer to get the biggest screen that will fit in the cubby of a D3 (where factory sat-nav sits). Maybe my eyes are worse than yours! lol

I just measured the cubby and it is 180mm wide - the 7" China units appear to be at least 185mm wide - not counting cables which stick in the side.

There is a 6.2" model from DX (DealExtreme: $105.50 6.2" LCD Windows CE 5.0 GPS Navigator w/FM Transmitter + Built-in 2GB Memory (USA/Canada Maps)) looks like a goer. It's also in stock.

I'd be interested to hear what you decide to go with.

    Cheers,
    Rob

I emailed Navman via their website re the 3rd party maps, and of course got no reply

Anticipating this, I went to ebay and just this minute taken delivery of a 6" Knav, $180 on Ebay.

600mhz, 128mb ram, CE6.0, wifi, bluetooth, blah, blah. The only test I've done is to make sure it turns on, which it does, so there's a win!

Prelim discussion had with Ranga re what to do now but the aim is to get Oziexplorer and Hema 4WD maps onto it.

    Cheers.

Well the Knav appears to be as advertised. Feels a bit cheap and flimsy, and I've seen blades of grass more rigid than the stylus......but "price begets quality" as they say.

Powered it up, found the satellites, found home and work no probs, so for now, all is good.

Thanks for the offer RaZz0R. I think I already have the topo maps at hand.

Which 6" ones did you order?

    Cheers,
    Rob

They appear to be the "YF GPS" brand - good stuff!

If I've comprehended it right, the only downside to those would be WinCE 6 - which means TomTom can't be used... is that right?

    Cheers,
    Rob
