Thread: Google Earth datum ?

The datum is WGS84. Do you have the same issue with your GPS when using the GDA94 datum?

Your issue isnt the datum... More like the format..

Are you using DMS? DM.m?

I would assume the datum used is WGS84.
However that will have nothing to do with you running out of number space. Google how they like their lat/long entered. I always google it because I never remember it either.

You night have to check your GPS settings and see if they are in D,M,S or Decimal Degrees.

D.M.S Looks like 34.15.250

Decimal will look like 34.1524

Except that 34.15.250 doesn't equal 34.1524 - its 34.256667

As with projections, there is more than one mathematical interpretation of the earth's shape. Google Earth uses WGS84 datum.

GPS Visualizer has a calculator page which will calculate and show the various ways of expressing the latitude and longitude for a given point.

Decimal Degrees (DD.dddddd)
Degrees and decimal minutes (DD MM.mmm)
Degrees, Minutes and Seconds (DD MM SS.ss)

To change the way it's shown in Google Earth click "Tools", "Options" and then the tab "3D View".
Simply change your selection there.
Google Earth can also show the UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) data.

Somewhere in the setup or options for your GPS unit you'll probably be able to do similar, so just make them the same.
