I know TELF_RRC is using a good app on his iPhone, but can't tell you what it is, sorry!
Maybe drop him a PM...?
Hi All,
I'm looking for an app to work on my iphone the same as the ones people are finding for their android phones. Does anyone have any experience with this subject? I found an app called mudmaps which seems pretty good but i wanted to ask for advice before i spend $$ on buying some maps for it.
Cheers

If it's for navigating around the counrty - try MetroView....I love it.

It's an iPhone app $5 developed by a Tasmanian guy.
You can use maps from Ozi Explorer or Hema or even scan paper maps.
A little fiddling is required to convert file types but the guy Nik offers very good and speedy support if you need help.
It will auto load maps and track your position, it will show waypoints to follow and you can leave a breadcrumb trail.
You can also import KML files from google maps (i.e.track waypoints from 4x4 earth or explore oz)
I'm not affiliated with this at all, but it seems to be a great cheap solution for people that have maps already and dont want to fork out $$$ for mudmap etc.
Before you buy anything, have a look at the VMS app.

I'm not affiliated in any way, but this is the app I want. $200 seems steep, but look at the maps you get. At about a fifth of the cost of a Hema, seems good to me.
If you ant to get silly, then tomtom make a car kit for your iPhone which boosts the GPS reception, but it's not cheap. You might get something similar on ebay.
Its not a 4wd mapping app as such, but at 44$ it has so far worked everywhere around town and , though it does not have paper map convert etc, I have used it in Vic and so far have found ALL the 4 wheel drive tracks on it !
Which is more than I can say for my mates $1000 melways GPS thing.
It's a good Iphone all-rounder and reception is great, as is sat aquire.
Updates to map are frequent and free ( so far , 18 month user )
BTW I am not affiliated with these dudes at all.
+1 for metroview if you want a turn-by-turn navigator, its awesome (and cheap)
Due to the postings here, I have downloaded Metroview, and am amazed at it's value. At $18.99 it is a great Aussie program, fantastic!!! Will upgrade my offroad GPS soon, as I have trouble reading my Magellan black and white one (can't tell if it is a river, or road I am crossing, plus small screen). One of the problems of getting older
Cheers,
Ken
