    Hand held GPS

    Hi all,

Well I think its time to get a new handheld GPS.
Have had Magellan(explorist-died within 18 months-new board almost the same as a new one.grrr)

Currently have a Garmin 60CSx....its good but I like the maps(discoveroz) from Magellan better. If I could find a way to put the discoveroz maps onto the Garmin I would be a very happy camper.

So,which to go for.....pluses and minusess for both on the newer models please. HAND HELD ONLY please.

    cheers

HI Disco Gazza, if your not aware of it , there is a forum for GPS topics called GPS Australia. The Forum master sells GPS gear and may have deals. This may have pertinent info for you. I have bought the Garmin Rino as a matched pair recently, from Johnny Appleseed , as I have uses for two units. Alternatively , you could split the costs with someone else. These units have built in UHF radios that seem to meet the Australian standards. Works well so far. I have not got round to up loading topo maps to them as yet. Hope this helps. Cheers, 130man.

I purchased a garmin Montana a couple of months back as my garmin 60 was stolen.I have trialled the Montana in the high country as a vehicle based unit, have tried it on a 3 day hike and also on a 2 day rafting trip, all in all I'm really happy with it, though it is a little bigger than other hand held units, but it's mapping, touch screen and track/ route planner has been really good, another good feature is it's rechargeable battery pack or AA battery power if required. I'm heading out to do the border track in June, so I will see how it fairs a little further out bush.

Yeah I like the size of the Montana(seeing my eyesite is not what it used to be lol).
What are the maps like on it?
Do they show all tracks or just the main ones(hwyways, normal roads etc.)

    cheers
