Updated NSW 1:25k Topo Maps for Memory-Map

For anyone who has had Memory-Map for a while, Memory-Map have released an updated version of their NSW 1:25k Topo Maps. This release includes a lot more of the series 3 maps.

I was able to delete the old 1:25k maps on my iPad and download the latest version at no additional cost. My existing 1:25k NSW Topo map license was sufficient.

    Thanks John
I have been looking at upgrading my Memory Maps in my HM5i for a while.
Can you tell me how much of NSW is now available in 1:25k?
Ans I have no idea what the series 3 maps are.
I am also thinking of buying an iPad and putting it on there as well, due to my failing eyesight for reading

I don't think much has changed with the map coverage, basically east coast to just west of the ranges is 1:25k, central NSW is 1:50k (out to around Nyngan) then western NSW is 1:100k which are probably still as old as the hills.

At least it is better than the 250k maps that everything seems to come standard with.Might as well just use a Gregory's

You will find that for much of western NSW the 100k topos provide no more information than the 250k topos. I have both as digital data for my GPS, and find that for most purposes the 250k is more than adequate. Here are some images to illustrate this:

    250K

    Old 100K

New 100K (currently withdrawn from sale by Geoscience Australia)

Incidently, I also have the NSW 25k maps and for most 'off road' purposes they are just too fine a scale, even with my 7 inch screen GPS.

    Cheers

I am more interested in the 25K maps for the areas that I normally drive in,which is the Great Dividing Range and just beyond, and the 250k maps, don't show a lot of tracks.
I have enough trouble seeing the screen on my HM5i without my glasses, never mind any detail
That is why I am thinking of running an iPad as a backup,a bit easier on the old eyes. And can check it when we pull up,take bearings and check the route and then use the navigator to proceed when mobile.

The same amount of NSW is available in 1:25k as before. Series 3 is just a newer version of the maps.

Agreed! The darker green map is 1:250k and the lighter green map is 1:25k. Both maps show exactly the same geographical area (4km x 3Km) as you can see, there is an immense amount of additional detail on the 1:25k maps. In eastern NSW the additional detail is extremely useful.

1:25k Series 3 Map (exactly the same area):

For comparison, here's the old 1:25k Series 2 Map:

That was what I wanted to see.

Today I received an email from memory-map about the 2012 NSW Topo upgrade. The Upgrade I mentioned previously in this thread is now superseded. Memory Map claim that this release delivers:
    • higher resolution
    • better colours and
    • more accurate information

Following is a snpashot of the same area of map. It may not be immediately evident from this post, but the resolution appears to be approximately twice that of the previous 1:25k maps. Not sure I agree with "better colours". The final claim of "more accurate information" is difficult to verify. I've done a few spot checks and the information did not appear to differ greatly, but maybe I just looked in the wrong places...

    Costing notes:
To upgrade to the maps I mentioned previously in this thread can be done at no additional charge. To update to the 2012 maps costs $99.

I expect that the extra resolution will be handy.
