Thread: Android GPS Navigator

Hi, I'm new to Android so I'm looking for some advice. I want to run Torque on a Android GPS navigator. I've found two different devices.

Could someone advise wich may be better for running Torque?

One has a Capacitive screen with Android 2.2 CPU Info Tmic: ARM11 1.1G

7" Capacitive Android 2.2 Car GPS Navigator / WiFi / FM / TF / Canada Map (ARM11 1.1GHz / 4G - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

The Other has a resistive screen with Android 4.0 CPU S1 cortex-A8 1GHz

As these don't have Bluetooth (I cant find a Android navigator with Bluetooth AND AV-in) I expect I'll have to hack into Root and use a WiFi OBD-II dongle.

The main differences seem to be one has a better screen with older OS vs older style screen with newer OS.

I have no idea about which processor is better or if it makes a difference in a navigator.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Look closely at the Nexus 7. You will not be happy with a cheapish Android tablet. Slow and laggy. I'm grabbing a Nexus 7 this afternoon, had a play with one a few weeks ago, they are very quick and have very good specs for the money.

Thanks for the tip - the nexus looks great. However in my original post I overlooked one of my primary needs which is that the unit has to act as a reversing camera display therefore it needs to have an AV in port. Both the navigators I listed have this.

I'm accepting that the el-cheapo android tablets wouldn't be a patch on something like the nexus but as long as it can operate the basic function of GPS and reversing display I'd be happy. If it will run torque then I'd be wrapped
