    GPS app for iPad

Who can recommend a Navigation app for the iPad. I'm used to Oziexplorer and have a lot of maps calibrated for it (like it very much, used it in Africa with an windowsbased Tablett. Worked perfect!) It's a pity there's no version for IOS.

    HEMA MAPS

I'm using the HEMA app and I'm very happy with that. I also have an app called GPS PRO HD. Cost $15 and allows you to cache google maps or similar and use them. I used that while in the UK recently and it was faultless. Never needed to use a road map or Car GPS.

I use hema for large scale mapping ie accross the state and Galileo for really fine detail ie 200m scale, it is based off open street maps and they can be pre scanned for offline use

    HI

I am using MemoryMaps and am pretty happy with it.

It supports quite a few map types

Hema is Memory Map. Only difference is branding and the bundled maps.

    Hi

Thanks for that, so the difference is mainly in the UI then?

It's mainly the splash screen and about screen

This is a screen shot of Memory Map my iPhone - the license I have are on other devices so this is just in preview mode.

compare that with the iPhone shots on the iTunes store page.

I should add that the important differences are all about the map licensing.

Hema - full hema Australian mapping licensed for five iOS devices.

Memory Map - full hema Australian mapping license for 2 mobile devices (iOS, android, wince ) 139US or 2 mobile + 2 PC for $179US. You can also buy individual regions - eastern australia, northern australia, Western Australia, and Great Desert Tracks as 2xmobile +2xPC packages for $63US each.

The PC licenses are required to run the mapping under the Memory-Map Navigator PC app for route planning etc on a desktop. If you buy Hema and decide you want the PC licenses it will cost you an additional $139US.

It ultimately depends on your needs. If you only want the iOS coverage and need the full Hema Australia package the Hema app is the better choice. If you need PC coverage and/or mixed mobile devices licensing, or only want to buy a couple of regions Memory Map is the way to go.

    cheers
