Thread: Cheapest off road GPS

I had been looking for a GPS Navigator for ages to replace my ageing tomtom that would no longer update. I found a chinese 5" one for $50 that I used for a while before I heard about offroad maps. After some playing I found this device was running WinCE. Abit more reading and I downloaded OZI explorer $40 and some pirate hema maps (free). So for $90 I now have a sat nav that not only has suprisingly good street navigation but with the change of a setting I have a really good off road map/navigator.

Since then My Kids managed to damage the screen, It's still usable but as I use this for work as well I will need to get a new one. This time I will probably get a bigger screen.

I have also started using Memory map on my android phone (free). It comes with free hema maps and I have also found it to be really good.
I am now trying to decide. Do I buy a cheap android tablet with GPS.
Or do I buy another chinese navigator. Ahhh the tough decisions.

I suppose what I am asking is what have you guys tried ?
Have you found a good budget option that does street navigation and offroad mapping that works well for you ?

Sounds like a good way of doing things. Memory map is big in the UK, I really liked it. Well more the OS maps than the program itself.

Have you tried Open Street Map? Im wondering if it is any good here in Australia. We run a Garmin GPS MAP 60 CX in our Defender and it was great from the UK through Europe, Central Asia and Russia. Mongolia lacked detailed but we just pulled out the laptop, ozi and old soviet maps for that country.

When I get my truck back I will download the OSM maps for a look.
