    Hema

    Hi
Has anybody tried or used the Hema Navigator HN6 GPS. Mainly for off road use.
    Thanks Paul.

Not used one but had a play around with one. The map package is probably the best you can get. It also does the street stuff if that is what you are into.

Bonus that you get the Camps 7 POI already loaded etc.

Interface seems a little clunky though but maybe I didn't spend enough time with it.

Your alternatives would be OziExplorer on a tablet running whatever maps you prefer. The 1:250k series seem to be free and easy to get but the actual Hema ones you would probably need to pay for. If you all ready have a capable tablet you could stump up $200 for the Hema Maps and about $50 for a RAM mount and do it that way.

    choices choices.

Hi Paul, I had the Hema HN6 in my Deefer and was very happy with it for off and on road nav. I also had a reverse camera plumbed in and it all integrated very well - much better than my current VMS unit. Only wish was for a bigger screen. The OziExplorer that comes with the Hema is very good with a better interface than OziCE. The ability to convert maps from virtually any source with free to download software from Ozi is good too - I used 1:25,000 CFS maps on mine. I would go back to the Hema any time

I've got an HN6 and it's a good unit. It replaced a Garmin Zumo.

I had to get a sunlight shield thingy (clip on) to stop the reflection making it hard to read the screen (was about $30), but apart from that, it is great.

They are the ducks guts, I have bought 2 at work for our Fire Appliances. I wanted to buy one at the Perth 4x4 show for personal use but they did not seem to want to sell one. 3 people there doing nothing and was telling my missus that I wanted to buy one and no one came near us, and they would have heard this clearly so I am having second thoughts about buying one and may just upgrade my TrackRanger and laptop.
Would be really good on a 10" screen.

I have not tried the HN, I have Ozi Android that I have 1:25k, 1:100k maps in and have almost completed converting 1:250k maps to use with Ozi, its time consuming but far better with a 10" screen and thedeatail of the maps is the same as Hema, sure it does not have the POI function but thatsnotreally an issue for me, I also have a Navman MY400 with the 4x4 Hema maps addin from Navman that works well too although I havnt tried it in the bush yet.

I wouldn't waste my time buying anything like that at a 4x4 show Craig. I made that mistake when they had the VMS units on special at the show a couple of years ago. Turned out to be a pile of crap and, because I didn't buy it from one of the reputable dealers, subsequent back-up service was virtually non existent. I have since put it back in its box and given it away.

I bought a Hema HN6 about a year ago now from the Perth Map Shop in the top end of Hay Street in the city. Excellent service, training provided in store etc. Would happily recommend him to anyone.
    Cheers .........
