I found this (NoniGPSPlot) met my needs.
Maps from Google, Yahoo, Bing or your own maps (in suitable format) can be used on or offline. About $4.00 from the Google Play store. Seems to do pretty much all what OziExplorer does.

Androzic is free and not a bad little program, works with ozi explorer map and track files
Sent from my HTC_PN071 using AULRO mobile app
Oruxmaps works great. I used it to do the desert last year and currently using it to do The Cape now. Great bit of software.
+1 for both Orux and Androzic
OsmAnd can also work, but needs to be zoomed in too close to see off road tracks for my liking.
Here's a pic just taken on my Ipad of the $99 Hema Maps app.. I'm assuming you can get it for android. I only purchased it recently and so far Im very impressed. Clarity is good, and the maps are layered. Zoom out and it goes to the next larger map, until you have the whole of Australia on the screen. Zoom in and it will go to the best map it has. Here's Gawler. There's plenty of detail, and has everything I'd need. It does not have the tiny streets in the center, but you're sense of direction does that for you, and if you have location settings on, then you know where you are anyway! So far so good for Hema in my book!

And here's Hawthorn. This is the best I can get, but I'd be happy to drive into Melbourne with this.

And lastly, here's Howqua in the Vic High country. We were there last year, and bought the local map. Its actually this one. All the tracks are there, and as I zoomed in, it selected this clearer more detailed map. From what I can see, all the national parks etc are in more detail... Flinders, High Country etc etc. hope these views help!Cheers for now, Simon.

Well funny you should mention that as I was at the explore oz expo here in Melbourne and had a chat to the folks at the Hema stand and the $99 app is apple only though it is the older app, they have released a newer one for $49 which is available through both stores and have currently under consideration but from what I hear it still needs alot of work as is still missing quite a few features (well at least thats what the folks at the stand thought and were kind enough to tell me)
