I have a 10" HP tablet PC in the for sale section running ozi with full up to date Hema mapping if you are interested :) All you would need is a USB or bluetooth GPS to complete the set-up.

I wouldn't recommend going this route. Most half reasonable tablets have a built in GPS these days and don't cost much more that a USB/Bluetooth GPS alone. Plus there is potentially a lot of pain with software drivers etc.
Here you go. Mapconnect is a bit fiddly to get your mind around when you first use it, but after a while makes sense.

There's a lot of uses for a laptop or the little net books beside Nav stuff... As I said I use both the phone is a lot easier to use... But I wouldn't go on a long trip without something to store photos on& email n banking.... I do like the idea of being to scan n load older paper maps... It's surprising what you find on them.....there was some link between mud map and vms early on , I think that died out , and while mud map are trying to say that iOS 8 won't run there mapping I'm using it on this trip.....
Ps there's a patchy covering of 1 :100 000 to no idea where I got it from I could wack it on a disk if ha you go the tablet / comp with ozy x way.....must dash the Muscat is getting to cold
For our last trip I ran a cheap Aldi 10" android tablet.
Oziexplorer app and
cheap bluetooth gps sitting on the dash.
Others just ran the internal gps, they all performed well.
Cost other than the tablet $25 for Ozi and around $60-100 for the BT-GPSr
Most of the maps you would need can be got for next to nothing.
GA 1:250k are free to download. Look for the seamless zone maps ie Zone 56 through to Zone 49

You just have to set Ozi to bluetooth gps, rather than the internal gps. (from memory - either way its pretty simple)

FYI: I purchased Mud Map some time ago to use on my iPad. Recently Apple updated their operating system. I received an email from Mud Map saying thanks for your support (read 'money') but we will no longer support the old operating system. Buy the new version of MudMap ($100) if you want to. They offered a $25 discount as I had already bought their expensive app.
What's to stop them doing this again? Nothing. They did not even reply to my very civil email.
In conclusion, I will not be giving them any more money. I'll stick with OziExplorer which I have or HEMA if I need it.
I never thought MudMap was all that good anyway.
