Magellan 200 Explorist GPS. (Vibration ?).
I have a Explorist 200 Magellan. I have used it about 8 times in the Disco on short trips and I have always just sat the unit in the Disco on the centre console near the auto shifter.
On the clubs last trip to City View it started to play up the next day when turning it back on. It would only give me the start screen and then when you pushed the enter another button to start finding satellites it would only say loading and do nothing else. It has never showed this before.
I have taken it to a Magellan man at the Gold Coast show and they where baffled so the GPS has been sent to Perth to be check by Head Office Australia.
The GPS unit has never been dropped or been in water or moisture, Could this have happened from vibration from not having it seated in a proper GPS holder :?:
Has anyone else had a similar problem. :?:

Odd things happen.
On the morning of March 17 I turned the GPS on and it took 15 to 20 minutes to lock in on the satellites. It has never happened before it usually takes less than five minutes on a cold start and much less on a warm start. It hasn't happened since.
I put it down to solar atmospheric/satellite issues.
Just maybe it is not the GPS. :?:

one_iota,
I don’t know what was going on with it I have left it on for a full day twice and it still would just go to saying loading and that was all it would do.
When it was working I had never seen this loading message.
It is in Perth now and I guess I will here something from them in about a week.

That definitely sounds like a hardware problem. I hope that they come through with a fix:...a replacement.
The Magellan portables are designed to be used in all sorts of conditions by bushwalkers and other lunatics so I dont think that a trip in a Land Rover could be grounds for claims of abuse.

Well I have finally heard back from Perth where the GPS is being fixed and they have informed me that the main base map had been lost (Blown out) and there reason was from a power spike :?: (WHAT THE) How the hell do you get a power spike from 2 x AA batteries.
From when it was working to the next day when it had stoped working it had the same battery in it they had not been replaced or the compartment opened it between so it sound like a load of crap to me. :!:
Cost $100.10

If it is still under warranty then I would comment that it has only been used with batteries and the fact that the compartment was not opened so I nolonger have confidence in their product or claims and would like my money back. That might change their tune.

I must say it is amazing how much better this unit works now it is in a proper holder just under the front windscreen (See Thread: UHF Mount) than sitting on top of the Auto transfer case next to the UHF radio.
Note to all it dose matter where the GPS unit is in the car when not using an external aerial.
