    Tracks4Australia GPS Maps - Download

I've been reading some posts from this (GPS) forum, and found out about the Tracks4Australia GPS maps. So I downloaded them.

Now I have a lot of .IMG files but I can't work out how to view them. Did I miss something?

I can see the main map of australia with all the numbers for each area, but can't 'drill down' to see any detail. If I double click directly on one of the .IMG files, I have to choose an app (tried a few, but nothing views).

    Help!!

    Thanks
    David

You need late versions of the Garmin's MapSource. Trip and Waypoint Manager is the cheapest. City Navigator, etc are more expensive as they include maps.

You need MapSource to upload the Tracks4Aus maps to the gps (only for Garmin mapping gps recievers that support uploading of maps).

Oh - OK. Thanks for that.

I haven't got a GPS yet (just started on this new quest today after seeing Garmin's stand at the Adelaide Boat Show) so does that mean I can't see them without this Garmin App?

Is there a free viewer to try this out (MapSource lite!?!)?

Does this also mean that I would be forced to buy a Garmin if I want to use those maps?

Sorry to be so clueless, but it's all new to me.
    Regards
    David

there is a program called garmin que - it runs on PDA's and does everything you want... it'd freely downloaded from garmin's webpage
all you need is a garmin bluetooth gps and a laptop/PDA to run the trakcs4australia maps

however, to get it to work with non-garmin bluetooth GPS units, you need a little freeware application called gps proxy which dupes the garmin software into thinking a garmin gps is present (this is *ahem* dubious in it's legality)

a program called 'patchimg' can be used to upload the maps...

plenty of information if you run a google search for these programs - best bit is they are free!
