Hi Guys
Now I have a laptop Im keen to get Ozi Explorer.
Ive spent some time poking around their website but couldnt find out wether my TomTom One can provide the GPS signal needed for moving maps.I do understand I cant upload Ozi Explorer to my TomTom,wasnt looking to do so.
I guess I can download the trial copy and try,would rather hear from the brains trust if it can be done.

So are you planning to run OziExplorer on a laptop and source the GPS signal from your Tom Tom ?
Ozi doesn't really care where the GPS signal comes from - a few people use those GPS mouses ( mice ?- Ron ? ).
But your Tom Tom needs to be able to output the GPS "stream" to your PC in a compatible format ( eg NMEA ). Most of those navigator type units won't do that as far as I am aware.

Couldnt find any info on the TomTom site.
I will get the TomTom and plug it into the laptop,see if I can get any info out of it.

Major part of the heart and soul of AULRO.comAs Wayne suggested, buy a GPS mouse - I did. I have a USB one with a magnetic base, cost about $80.
It works well with both Destinator (using Map Monkey) and OziExplorer.

Well TomTom abducted the puter for ages.Internet dropped out whilst updating but I wasnt informed
Cant find any info if the TomTom actually puts a useable GPS signal down to the laptop.It must interact as I can now operate TomTom from the laptop.

I've played tonnes with my 2 TomTom units (running 3rd party apps on it too, even ones that track my GPS position onto the unit so I can upload to Google Maps afterwards and see where I've been), and there is NO WAY you can get the GPS signal "out of" the TomTom unit. Sorry.
However, going the other way, there is a way you can download - FOR FREE - Google and Yahoo maps at different scales that can be used with OziExplorer, instead of relying on the usual "paper" style/look maps. Nice high definition, reasonably up to date, satellite pictures. I'm currently using them on my new Nokia N95 mobile phone with the built in GPS function, and I'm VERY impressed so far.....

TomTom units, like all such autorouters, cannot output a GPS signal for other units to use. As TomToms are Linux based I doubt you could hack it and install Oziexplorer as you can with Navmans and Mios. Your best bet is to get a second unit and run Ozi on that. Any PDA will do, even secondhand. Get a VGA resolution one from eBay, add a Bluetooth GPSR and you're away.Originally Posted by LandyAndy

Ozi Explorer confirmed the same.
They recommend the mouse GPS if you arent looking at getting a true GPS.

Hi, do you have any tips on how to use a Navman ICN720 to run Ozi Explorer or similar? I still have my one from NZ, but it is cheaper to buy a new unit for using with normal street navigation than to pay for the australian maps for it! So at the moment it is redundant.

Many of navigation devices run Windows CE, a cut-down version of Windows for mobile devices, and cut down even further for nav units. This isn't obvious when you use it unless you know what you're looking for. Examples include later Navman units, Mios, and the iPaq 312.
Windows CE is a proper operating system neverthless and it can run other applications too, like Oziexplorer. There are several ways to do this, but the easiest is probably to:
1. Get an SD card (16Gb can be had for less than $100 these days).
2. Go to www.oziexplorer.com , then the OziCE page, and then download the wince_core_runtime.zip.
3. Unzip that into a directory on the SD card.
4. In the root of an SD card copy any file to the filename 'celauncher.exe'. When Windows boots, it looks for this file and tries to execute it. If it exists, it'll boot into Windows CE instead of whatever nav system it was supplied with.
5. You then get a mini Windows interface. From there you can run Explorer and then run OziCE (ARM).
That's pretty much it.
Note that this is not illegal. No copyright has been infringed, and you own hardware. If you were copying maps that's a different matter.

It is possible to auto-run Ozi on startup too. I don't own a Navman so haven't tried it myself, but I do own an iPaq 312 which works the same way. Details of what I did to it are here:
