    external antenna

Just a quick tip that someone has probably thought of.

Good place to mount your antenna is to rivet a small flat steel plate to the top of your snorkel so the magnetic base can grab to this.

Or just use self-tappers, or even velcro.

RF Industries do a CB antenna base with integral GPS antenna mount on it.
As I have a Colorado, they go to a 3m accuracy without the need for an antenna and the built in one is better than the external! My Garmin external mounts on a suction cup plate that I just stick inside the windscreen to make it look "techanogical" these days!!
