A few of us do it. I enjoy it but have found it difficult to go out just to do a day of caching lately.
Just wondering how many members have heard off or done geocaching

Have done some beer geocaching in Poland!
A British ex pat organised it. Get your GPS coordinates and off you go. Find a beer cache and exchange your bottle of beers. Great fun afterwards trying different beers from around Europe.
Not sure it would work in Australia. Can't think why though!

Yes I have heard of it. A buddy of mine back in Canada loves it. It seems to be a good way to explore a new place. People have had troubles with getting into the containers and putting stuff in... specially after 9-11. People wonder why you are sneaking around.

Have a look here - Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site
Do a search on your local area and you'll be surprised how many caches are within a 5 or 10km radius.
Then just go and find them.
It's a great way of using your GPS in a different way than 4WDing - although the two can be combined.

There is some Geocashing website that has a whole stack of GPS coordinates which you need to find. They seem to be in really cool places that are not commonly gone to. At the cash there is a box full of goodies, where you take one and leave another. I think you also sign the cache and register it on the website. As I said, I've only been along for the ride though.

You go to http://www.geocaching.com and it has a database of either logs or small containers with a surprise inside. Enter the postcode of the area you are interested in and it gives a list of caches.
You get the GPS coordinates and go looking for the cache. when you find it you sign the log, or take the surprise AND REPLACE IT WITH SOMETHING FOR THE NEXT PERSON.
There are hints on the website if you have problems finding it.
Hope this makes sense.
Great fun for families.
