SubscriberI have a BU-303 GPS receiver with a standard USB plug on the end of the cable. It's used on an old laptop with Trackranger and Ozi explorer...
I would like to use it as an external antenna for a Mio C520.
The C520 has a tiny (about 2.5mm diameter) female antenna jack for an external receiver. Was wondering if it is feasible to construct a patch cord with a female USB plug on one end and a suitable male connector on the other to fit the C520? If so, how do I "describe" the male "coax?" plug i.e does it have a special name in "connector-speak" and also what sort of cable might be required?.. I should be able to get the pin layout somewhere
Thanks

No it's not feasible. While they might look like an external antenna, they are a full GPS receiver.
To use it as an antenna, the lead would have to be a decent form of coaxial cable that could carry the RF signal from the BU303 to the GPS receiver. It isn't. It is a USB lead that is a 4 wire data cable which transmits serial text data that the computer can read. It also has a 5v and ground feed to power the device.
If you don't want it anymore, you are better off selling on ebay or something and buying an external antenna.
