Thanks - not a member to use the first and the second directs me to the makers website who is not providing updates - need to go to the Route 66 site and they want nearly $100 - so it is almost cost effective to throw the GPS away and buy a new one with the new maps already loaded.

    Cheers

Not supprised you not a member Garry- that site is mostly kids swaping music. I agree with you about it almost being better to throw old one out and buy a new one rather than new maps. Helped a mate get new raod maps for a garmin. at just over $100 it felt a bit odd as a new unit with new maps cost only a little more

Just join the site Garry! Virus check before you upload to your GPS.

Haven't had any viruses from maps yet.

Dick Smith have the Garmin Nuvi 255 for $164 atm. This is now superseded technology but will work a treat, have an update for current maps AND you can load free and/or commercial off-road maps for when you head off the black stuff. Sensis mapping is reputed to be better than Navteq at present.

Unless you have a high-end unit (e.g. a waterproof motorcycle GPS) I'd agree that replacement can be more sensible than map upgrades.
