    Power gains

    Kev,

If its V8 peformance you want out of your six you should have a look at this site, www.raptorsc.com.au , bolt on superchargers with 60% power gains, that would make the old girl get up and boggie.

    Cheers Jeff

maybe not that much boogie, just enough to still climb highway hills at 100 , and a nice get out of my way exhaust note in the bush, maybe its a midlife crisis thing

Yella Terra head, decent cam, exhaust, crank girdle (unless it's a HP block (doubt it is), I'd stay single carb but go to a webber (late X series falcon). Can get over 150hp and not be breaking anything, runs well on 3.54 diffs. Add nissan 5sp if you want longer legs but ours would cruise at 160k's at 4000 all day. Made short work of runs out to Broken Hill (<10hrs in a S3)

sounds good, allready have the twin stromberg x2 setup though (in the shed), its not a hp block ... is fitted with sals diffs ,ran good revs at 100ks (2600) must have tall gearing as only 15 inch sunrasers wheels and no over drive , i have a set of 16 inch steel muddys too, biggest problem is big jump between 3rd / 4th gear , she dies going up hill then revving her nuts out if i drop to third with no gain, have looked at threads regarding nissan boxes but looks like a hard thing to set up properly..also not sure whether to run the x2 twin exhaust ( that came with the carb setup ) or i have a set of extractors that are 6 to 3 to 1 ,,thanks ( and 10 hours to the hill from syd is good time )..Kev

A friend of mine runs a 186 in his SIIa and he runs a performance head, mild cam and a set of extractors into a twin 2.5" exhaust system. It also has overdrive and 3.54 diffs...and it will easily go off the clock (!), and the speedo is registered in old money..(90mph+). Sounds fantastic. Drives really well. Just an idea.

PS the engine came out of a speedway car...

A lot of the ex speedway guys ended up with the HP blocks which are a lot stronger and seem to cope with running in warmer conditions and at consistant high RPM better. The later 179/186 HP are based on the early castings and have the same max overbore, a 179 +0.00625" ends up at 186. But thats just the 186 HP which will go another 60.060' to 192. If doing this you need a good shop that will align bore the bores to recentre over the crank journals. A good block that's done low k's, never boiled, no flaky rust could go to 0.1000 but pistons are hens teeth but were available.
