Just put a mild cam and a set of twin strombergs on it with electronic ignition and some mild head work and extractors a Holden 186 will scream all day and still live to see tomorrow. Fuel economy well if your worried about that why did you buy a Landrover
I've had my IIA 88 up to 140, but that was in OD and a slight downhill, and a very long straight...
Was a bit of a moment, for us both! I don't do that anymore. We stick to 110 now.
If I stood on the brake pedal at 110 I'd do a front-flip! Maybe you lot need to adjust your brakes...

My Showroom Stock EH149 road race sedan would pull 6200 rpm no problems.

If you want to drop the revs (or up the speed) you could always fit classic rangie diff centres 3.5 instead of the standard 4.7s ;) If youve got a shorty Or stage 1 diffs for LWB

A balanced 186 with decent cam, headwork and carburation will easily see 6000rpm. The vehicle and the operator are the limiting factors here:cool:

Refer post no.13. A 149 with single Stromberg, standard manifolds, only head modifications permitted were by removing metal. Creative engineering from the Smoky Yunick School of Rule Book Compliance. Pulled 5600 rpm in top down the straight at Lowood. Would run to 6200 rpm in 1 & 2. Dead set "Showroom Stock" and no scrutineer ever managed to find otherwise. Used a diff centre from a Bedford ute. I forget the ratio, may have been 4.11. This was not kosher but was never found. Other than the diff. ratio, there was nothing done that the rule book forbade, unlike others. Cheating was rife in this class.Quote:
