    Registration/engineers on 202 replacing 186 - in VIC

    Hi guys

Basically the background is that im looking at purchasing a 2a with a 202 conversion, this car was last registered in WA with a 186
Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation?
Is this car going to need an engineers for road or club registration? or should it be ok because it has been registered with a Holden 6 before.

I will call vicroads as well but from experience it depend on who you talk to as to what answer they give you.

    Any info is much appreciated

    Cheers! Phil

You could be out of luck. If it has never been registered in Vic with that engine, you may have problems. I am currently going through this at the moment and I need a full engineers report no biggy for me as I have other things planned during the resto like disk brakes, better seats and maybe even power steering, so it would need to be done anyway.

If it had the 186 it was originally registered with in WA, then it could be a different story. Ring up Vicroads - surprisingly, they were very helpful with the information they supplied to me.

Hope you get it over the line.

    Cheers - Gav

Try asking the question via Vicroads on line enquiry form.
Then you got it in writing.

Thanks Mick, I have sent in an enquiry form, this is by far the best way to do it as the amount of times ive been told different things by different people at vicroads is amazing.

The car has been bought now anyway so its just a matter of which way to go about getting it on the road in one form or another.

it had a holden 6 before so i cant see it making any diff.
    i bought a rrc reg with a 3.5, the guy put in a 4.6 & then i bought it
is all they did at vic roads was update the eng no.
was still a rover v8 as far as they were concerned.
i think you would be very unlucky for them to dig out slightly diff eng capacity.
just tell them it had a new eng as the old was shagged, with the new eng no

that is as long as it was last reg with a holden 6

The problem is that it was registered in WA with this engine - The data bases for engine numbers isn't national so VicRoads may not recognise the conversion. Had the same issue with mine - had a Holden engine in it registered in NSW so it was going to require engineering to pass in Vic. Easy for me as I decided to stick the original engine back in, but unless for some reason VicRoads has the correct engine number in their system - not WA's system - then they may not pass it.

    i bought a RRC in S.A.
the Lady at the local Vicroads brought it up on their computer, with the expired SA reg,VIN, eng no & previous owner.
don't know what to say, only this was my experience.....
I don't want to lead anyone astray
This wasn't the 3.5 to 4.6 car though
