back in March re this vehicle. There is currently a demo single cab and a dual cab doing the rounds in Victoria. They were on display at the Melbourne truck show earlier this year.


Prices advised then were $70K for the single cab and $75K for the dual cab.

Iveco was proposing dual compliance, one at <3500 Kg for camper conversions and those without a heavy vehicle endorsement and one at 5500 Kg for those who wanted it. Identical vehicle, dual compliance, you choose. GCM for the heavy unit was 9000 Kg.



Specs quoted were 3 litre, 4 cyl, 16 valve,125 Kw (170 HP) @ 2990-3500 rpm, 400 Nm (295 ftlb) @ 1250-2990 rpm, 6 speed all synchro, 2 reduction (3 speed) transfer case, tyres either 9.5R X 17.5 or 255/100 (9.00) R 16 on 6" rims, front disk, rear drum, ABS & EBD, 90 litre fuel tank with 120 Km/hr gearing.

You need to do your homework. Santana started making Landrovers under licence in the 1950s. Long before coils. Santana developed 3.4L 6 cyl versions of the (4cyl) 2.25P and 2.25D - which put LR's IOE 6cyl offerings to shame. They developed the LT85 5 speed. They chose not to go to coils when LR did - for whatever reason. They split with LR around 1988-90, which meant LR had to use the (weak) LT77 5-speed in the defenders. The Santana PS110 was rebadged as the Iveco Massif, pictured above. Apart from the leaf springs, it has axles that are strong and properly designed, and a 2.8L or 3.0L Iveco TD engine which puts the puny engine to shame.

Now if I could get a bus body on one it would have to beat an OKA.

Both the dual cab and single cab are FUGLY!!! Hope they look better in the flesh, as I certainly don't like them from the photo's. Just MHO of course.

I claim to be no expert on the LR Santana relationship. I was of the opinion we liked our coils, it's one of the great things about our sheds on wheels.
So despite the great things that Santana has done in the past this is a 70K+ vehicle on leaf springs, I don't apologise for not being excited.

I like coils.

So do I, but I also like proper axles and decent engines.

There's enough expertise around the aftermarket world to work some magic skullduggery on the springs, make it ride betterer etc. - Would be worth the pain to have a reliable and strong engine/drive/diffs. :p

Strictly speaking, its not a Forward Control as the driver sits behind the front wheels. More like a SBV style, bit like those Mitsubishi DELICA's - grey imports some years ago...

I guess I'm having trouble discrediting the turbo Isuzu coiled Salisbury approach. Sure axles are weak but that is easily fixed. I'd rather replace axles than make ancient leaf spring tech work in the modern day. I hate leaf springs it just seems lazy and old tech. Horses pull carts on leaf springs.....

Exactly the reason I was looking. Dimensions are nearly identical to our OKA LT but newer all round. I particularly liked the three speed transfer case (and creature comforts).

As for coil vs leaf springs. Properly set up long leaves/shocker combo will give an excellent ride and with the natural dampening of leaves (something coils do not have) you are unlikely to have shocker issues as the load placed on them is much less than for a coil sprung vehicle.
