I love coils too but we all know you dont need huge articulation for good 4WD ability.

Looks Interesting , there was a bit of discussion on the defender 2 forum and one Italian guy has a van with same Iveco engine and gearbox ans lots of problems also but naturally could be a one off, guess again up to the dealer for good support and knowledge.....

My Iveco light truck (same engine and gerabox of Massif) i two Years:
3 turbos
2 gearboxes
1 engine
6 (yes six) EGR valve
3 High pressure fuel pump
2 Vacuum servo
1 Instrument cluster
and....
- brakes still blocked (3 Iveco investigations w/o results)
- Gearbox absolutely not hard, more than hard when changing from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd
- when empty +/- 5 - 6 km/l, when fully charged ...........................
- Electrical circuits: always problem
- ............

Not the 4WD version - but we bought a new Iveco Daily dual cab tray top for use as our workshop / boilermakers truck on the minesite a little over a year ago. Great little truck to drive when it's going - but that's all that can be said about it. Unfortunately - it hasn't been "going" for most of the time that we have had it. Has spent more than 50% of it's life either parked up waiting for parts, or back at the dealers / service agents getting fixed.
A couple of weeks ago we did what we should have done a long time ago - sent it off site on a tilt tray back to Skippers in Perth (where we bought it from) - told them what they could do with it, and purchased a second hand Mitsubishi 4WD dual cab tray top to replace it.
Would never recommend an Iveco to anyone. Drivetrain and suspension might be OK, but engine and electronics are crap. Possibly OK for city dwellers where you are not too far from the dealers - but totally useless in remote areas.
Neighbour over the back fence in Kalgoorlie has post office contract for delivering mail to a number of smaller towns around the goldfields. He used to have two Iveco Daily vans for this. After also suffering very poor reliability with his - he has got rid of them both and replaced with Mercedes.
So.....Let me get this right. Santana got rid of all the bad bits, replaced with all the good bits, couldn't sell it in enough numbers and sold the rights to iveco. Iveco then fitted even more good bits like axles and engines and still couldn't sell enough units to make it viable so dumped it. However, Landrover who apparently make a crap version of the same car are still making them and selling in enough numbers to be viable except for euro engineering regs.
Why were the Santana/Iveco potential customers rushing to buy Landrovers then?
I think it's a pretty good vehicle. If you want a great car, buy something else. If you want a great 4WD, buy a Defender.

I had a builder come in with a used low K crew cab iveco sent by the dealer.the a/c compressor had died and the system designed around european green recycle laws--not ability to work or buy parts.
we then walked around the truck and made a list that got very long over a few weeks.
But can it do this??

I don't think that's what I was trying to to say at all. That's apples and oranges. But Landrover-Santana-Iveco are all developments of a basic series III/ stage 1 and I still think my comments stand. Customers vote with there feet, there's no more maffif and apparently it's much better than a Defender.
