    2009 Disco3 camshaft recall (petrol)

    Hi All,

I booked my car in for a service this Friday and the service manager advise me that a new recall just came out. Something about the camshaft. Anyone has any info on this? I tried to search here and google but found nothing. I have a 2009 SE D3 (petrol).

    Thanks

There's a Service Action out to replace the balancer shaft on a small number of 2009 D3s. I guess this would be the one you're having done.

It seems to be a lengthy repair so, depending on which service you're having done, it might go over one day in the workshop.

Received a letter from LR today to confirm this. They don't call it a recall but instead a Customer Satisfaction Program..?? The concern is the drive sprocket on the engine balancer shaft and if it is not correctly manufactured, the owner will experience unexpected noise from the engine bay or in some cases unable to start the engine. The whole repair will take about 4.5 hours.

Now, I don't have any issue what so ever with the noise or the way the engine starts. Should I hold off for this sort of things? I am a little cold feet on any form of open heart surgery, and looking at the time it takes to repair, it is not a small job either.. I am just concern things start to go south after this repair. What do everyone think?

Being a Service Action, it needs to be done. These are different from recalls from a safety side of things as no-one will get hurt if it fails.

If it doesn't get done on your next dealer visit & something happens down the track, either they're in the poo for not doing the job or you are because you wouldn't let them do it.

Play it safe for the sake of all involved & have it done. It only affects a small range of Discos so something happened on the assembly line that shouldn't have.

Reinforce it needs to be done. My 2009 V6 failed to start a couple of weeks ago and was towed to dealer. They advised this morning that the complete engine is being replaced as a result of the cam shaft problem!

    Cheers Alec
