Ouch...maybe a good set of airhorns could have helped. ( or a more aware sweeper driver ) You would actually think they would either have a camera rear vision setup, or damn good mirrors. Those sweepers are quite dangerous ( fatal ) to anyone on foot, let alone another vehicle.

Yep, very dangerous. I'm more frustrated that had I still been in the Subaru, I WOULD have grabbed reverse and got out the way in time. I did it a couple of times over the 5yrs I had the car. Just not familiar enough with the LR yet and missed.

Commiserations This has happened to me 3 times, all in relativity new cars but thankfully not in the D3.

I got sick of putting in more than the fuel tanks could actually hold in my last vehicle at a service station.
Complained and nothing came about.

So took 2 accurate measuring containers down there, pumped 20 litres (indicated) into each and came up around 2 litres shy
Filmed the whole lot, and threatened to expose it...
Over a 155L tank, that was quite a rip off....

It also has a lot to do with your tank temperature, fuel temp etc... And just how high you got the tank filled (remember theres air trapped in there too)

There seems to be only 2 times in the life cycle of a car when it is most vulnerable to damage:
1. When it is less than a month old, and,
2. After you've haggled the best possible trade in deal from a dealer and you're waiting for the new car to arrive.

True indeed:
#1 - My last car got caught in hailstorm at the 3 week mark...
#2 - My parked motorcycle got knocked over by a car driver during the wait for the new one...

I was a little shocked so filled again today and it came out mathematically at 10.7l/100km which is what I expect from the driving I'm currently doing. I usually trickle fill for the figures, and use the same servo for getting fuel.

Can do anything about the temp, but diesel is not so expansive (is that a word?) as petrol.

What I DID remember about filling last time is that the fuel 'in' seemed about right for 10l/100km, then there was this spit of fuel (not much) and I then put near on 10l more in the tank. I'm guessing there was an air lock when I did the first fill that cleared at that time hence the poor consumption figure.

This time, I shook the car thouroughly then filled and when it 'clicked' shook again (stand on the tow bar and move weight up/down) till I heard a gurgle then did the rest of the trickle fill. I'll do this for the next fill and I should (magic escape word - should) have taken one variable out of the equation a bit.

Working on what the trip computer is telling me, I should (that word again) get 750km from the tank of fuel which is fairly in line with the 10.7 I worked out.

Ah well, it's only got 1200km on the clock so in around 30k or so it should be working as it should.

Yep.

I had a brand new, and I mean brand new, car damaged by a bloke who parked his car next to mine and slammed his opening door into the side of mine.

My car had only been picked up from the dealer that afternoon.
