    D3 Info

    Hello all,
    I normally post to the FL2 section but saw a nice D3 today that I would own in an instant. It seemed to be riding higher than normal (around 300 mm?) and had a great roof rack/basket that seemed to be moulded to the contour of the car. Would it have had suspension work as most D3's seem pretty low to the ground but this one looked like it had good clearance. Also, is there a basket style rack for the D3 as an LR accessory or would it probably be custom made? Sorry its hard to know what I am talking about. The car was in Penrith NSW.

    Hi Mike,
    When you say 300mm, i take it as from top of tyre to guard measurement?
    If so then it may have had shortened suspension link rods, this alters the height depending on the length of the rods.

    The roof rack may have been an Expedition rack, which is a factory unit.

    If you look in the gallery at some of the members rides you may be able to get a firmer idea of what type of rack exactly & then post a PM to whoever owns the rack to determine.

    Thanks for the info. By 300mm I meant the distance from the ground to the body. Most D3's seem to be not even 200mm (specs say 198mm I think?) but this one had good clearance.

    Also, with the air suspension, can you just 'jack' it up and leave it there? Maybe that was what it had?

    The EAS D3 can be raised to around 240mm clearance. It will stay at that height as long as you don't exceed 50 kph.

    It wasn't an S model was it?

    There are probably three likely scenarios two of which have already been covered here.

    1) If you saw the vehicle parked it may just have had the air suspension raised to off road height and it can stay there as longs a you don't go above 50kph. This is probably the most likely explaination.
    2) It may have had the shortened rods fitted which trick the car into raising teh air suspension on a more permanent basis.
    3) It may be a coil spring S model without the air and this may have had a lift kit installed.
