It means after the "First 1000k's" check the oil as this is when it will use a lot of oil on its initial run in.
Cheers.

Hello all,
I recently purchased a D3TDV6 (very low Km's) it also does the puff of smoke thing.....very noticeable at night but also during the day. My wife's Ford Focus TDi does the same thing when you rip into it, and boy does she rip. The old bus (TD5) didn't do this however. Maybe it's normal?
I also have a Mini Cooper Diesel and it emits zero smoke. After 7000klm the exhaust tip is even soot free.
Hi Mate,
This is the response i tried to send to your email but kept bouncing, so i cut & paste to here.
The dealer that you take the vehicle too will do a diagnostic check over, just raise the issue with them upon book in.
I will assume the vehicle has only 4-5000km's on it, so it may still be learning the drive sequence if you & your wife swap? driver & yes they do puff a fair bit of smoke including mine(2.7 tho'). We have noticed that they do steady up a little especially after 1st service, but will always blow a puff upon acceleration.
See how you go after they look at it.
Cheers.
I thought I might follow up in this thread.
The D4 started blowing smoke and using a little oil about a year ago. It went for a dealer visit and the problem seemed to have been fixed.
Fast forward 12 months.. The D4 burned 1 liter in 9000klm but I haven't noticed any smoke at all. The dealer investigation has found an oil leak in the secondary turbo. I am now waiting for parts for the fix.
Hi Mowog,
can you see where the oil has leaked to, (i.e running or pooling somewhere) reason I ask is mine has oil dripping off starter motor, and after a week and a half in dealers , they have decided, coming from front and running back, now waiting for LR UK to tell them how to fix it.
Cheers Ken
It is an internal turbo leak. So its going out the exhaust
