			Diesel Smoke and the D4

Has anyone else noticed how much diesel smoke their 3.0L D4 pumps out?

I have followed mine a few times and when the little lady sinks the slipper in, it gives out a fairly solid puff of black smoke.

I have also noticed the diesel smoke at night when I am driving. You can see the cloud in the head lights of the following car.

					Black smoke = overfuelling

My D3 would do it on occasion under heavy acceleration.

If you think it;s too much, take it to the dealer as it will probably just need a software reload/tweak/upgrade to make sure the throttle mapping's correct

Hi Mowog, funny you should mention this, I only noticed 2 days ago for the first time. I was coming onto a freeway with a bit of an incline and 'sunk the slipper' and noticed the smoke.
Its the first time I have noticed.
I was following a Rangie Sport TD yesterday and noticed that whenever the driver accelerated out of a round a bout, it left go with a puff of black smoke.
Sounds like it is pretty normal ????????????

Completely off topic but it is fun also when you are in traffic, being tail gated by little Jap 4cyl cars with windows down and hats on backwards.

I know I have quite enjoyed watching large amounts of diesel fumes fill their cars as I repeatedly accelerate needlessly in front of them

They seem to fall back and or change lanes shortly thereafter.

If you put the boot in it you get smoke... I think its pretty normal. Did the same on my FL2, and i see it all the time on the road when people overtake etc.

Just have LR check it out, just incase

Have noticed it a lot as well, following D4's or RRS,around town.

I had this happen with my X5 all the time.
2000k on the SE 3.0L . Not as noticeable yet.
Perhaps it varies with the quality of the fuel as well?

The D4 has another very handy anti tailgating feature. The downside it only works at night. The rear fog lights are at eye level for most sedans and they are very bright. A few moments of bright red lights seems to make even the most hardened tailgater back off.
