    Performance Upgrades

Hi all, I was wondering what everyone thought of the DP Chip upgrade or the LR power upgrade?

    I have to ask . . . . ."If" this is for your D4 3.0.

Why would you want to power up the 3.0ltr...It goes like a rocket now.
    You dont like your license?

If you do lose it, I promise to look after your vehicle with as much desirability as mine. I promise to drive within the boundries of the vehicle itself (Cape York/Simpson here i come again) & keep it as safe as (next to)mine in the garage

I have few friends that use the DP unit & have had no complaints, but with all things electronic some good reports & some bad.

    Cheers

Have to agree with Pete....why would anyone want more power than the 3.0. I'm a speed freak of the first order but these days we're headed for low range vehicles with 400kw and 1400Nm in the next few years....can anyone explain the point of such incredible power on public roads.

Gordon done something to his RRS. Check with him, but im sure he said he was happy with the extra power.

Also i think the downside to a chip was it only works in normal mode... i think!

A tuning box will give you more power/torque, and it's available across all terrain response programs. But in city driving, no matter what they claim, you'll use a lot more fuel. I'd stick to the car in original trim, or else only fit a tuning box for long runs/towing. That doesn't make it cost-effective unless you do a lot of rural km's

    Cheers,

    Gordon

drove a tdv6 with a dp chip on setting 7,,, i dident even no it was chiped till later that week, cant make much of a diffrence for the cost, witch is well over the 1k mark,

and the last car we had traded in with a chip, the next week engine light on and stuffed turbo so they do take a toll. 24k on the car and a my08, and was babyed

3L go ok as is, 1500$ will get you a nice set of tyers

Re-maps are better than a box for modern engines. Especially I would think for sequencial turbos. Not sure who has produced one for the D4 as they were having trouble cracking the new Bosch engine management system.

Hi stig0000, I had a DP Chip fitted to my LC 100 TD. The place that installed it set it on 7.
I later found out that this setting made the exhaust temperatures too high. After 4 different runs on a dyno, I found that setting No 4 was the best for torque and exhaust temperatures. I did sacrifice a little power but it was still well up from original.
I did learn that exhaust temperatures are very important as opposed to having marginally extra power.

    Hi,
I had a Tunit module on a 2002 Hilux. I found that under hard acceleration at speed (above 80), or acceleration when towing, the back of my truck would become obscured by black smoke regardless of what setting I adjusted my module too. When the module was removed I didn’t have a problem with smoke. The Hilux wasn’t a common-rail engine so you might have different result with the LDR.
There not much difference between the DPchip & Tunit modules as they are both manufactured by the same company in Germany or Austria.
