Thread: D4 climate control

Hi Brad,
I find that it's best to set the temp control to "max" (warm or cold - depending what you want) to get things working....once it's up and running you can then set your desired temp and forget it. Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention the fan - yep it will blow like a jet engine straight away....just turn it down a few notches till you get some warmth....otherwise you'll get frostbite !!!
It's just another one of those little "landrover" quirks.

In Auto mode, the fan shouldn't blow hard until the car is warmed up - both my D3's and the RRS did/do this. So something's wrong - try leaving it at 22?

agree with Gordon, I have the temp set somewhere between 18 and 22 in my D3 HSE and climate on auto. My fan doesn't start blowing until the engine temp has risen.

I hate using the climate control as it always blows like buggery and turns off the recycle. Those two parts are not LR'isms as my Berlina and Peugeot 307 do exactly the same thing.

However he says....I've never tried any of those vehicles climate control 's in the cold......

Even my D2 the fan won't start blowing till it's warm. I wouldn't think they would go backwards that way.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think it is programmed wrongly but i'll see if celtoid's does the same thing. I've started wearing my ugg boots to work to stop the frozen feet, and just prey i don't get pulled over looking like a total bevan (bogan depending on the state)

I have sent an email to landrover customer care regarding the problem so I'll see how they respond. MY local dealership as been more than helpful but I don't want to waste their time till i get something concrete. A bit of trivia, the last lend car the gave me was a 5 cylinder turbo charged Volvo S40. She went like a rocket. Could have left most cars for dead. I though volvo's were meant to be slow bricks

Experiment conducted though I'm not sure if this will help, as mine may not be 'right' either.

Temp fell below 5 degrees last night and as my wife and kids and I were visting my mother, there was no garage space and the truck sat on the driveway......so it was pretty cold this morning.

Not certain if it should make a hoot of a difference but just for the record, my D4 is a close to standard 3.0l TD SE. I don't have any non-standard a/c added.


Started the engine, hit 'Auto' and as normal for mine, all other control indicators switched off with the exception of the A/C and Auto light. The fan did not hammer air out of any of the main vents front or back and there certainly wasn't the noise associated with the fan running hard. I wasn't aware of any flow at my feet or on the windscreen either (but it may have been slight). However, the small (de-mist maybe) vents on the outer dash....the ones above the main outside vents, that are marked 'airbag' did have a steady stream of air. Had it been sub zero outside, that may have been a tad cool. Since the system de-selects recycle, that may get worse as you drive with flow through.

By the time I'd packed up the family and got driving there was nothing coming out of those de-mist vents, nor the main vents but there was a definate, slow flow of warm air on the windscreen....which I found sh*te as we were cold, so I turned auto off and got some warm air into the cabin via the normal selectors with no A/C on.

When I got home I tried my wife's Pug and it was pretty much the same (at least on start-up). Very light fan, on those de-mist type vents and the in this case, the windscreen too.

I know for a fact that should my D4 or the Pug be sitting in the sun and I select 'Auto' to cool....the fan hammers air out of all the main vents...thus my dislike for it!

So I guess my LR appears to be close to the same as the Pug, which is probably 'normal'. If your's is going like the clappers fan wise....I doubt that it is right.
