    Ordered a set of rear mud flaps for the D3 2 weeks ago from an East Coast dealer. They arrived Thursday, $136.00 latter, & I decided to pull off the broken ones & fit them today.
    Wrong ones, of course!
    They must be for a D3 that had the black guards, my 09 has colour coded guards which are slightly different.
    So by the time I send these back, get the correct ones over etc it will be another month or so.
    Not happy, gave them the model, year & VIN but they still sent the wrong thing.

    Does anyone have any updates on decent easy-to-fit (well, relatively at least!) flexible flaps for front and rear of the D4? I tore one of my genuine front ones off while bumping around in the bush over the weekend, and have been quoted $144 a pair for replacements. Local dealer says I need to buy a pair - but despite the price not being too shocking (for LR at least) I fear the same outcome could occur at any point in the future, given how rigid they are.

    I've seen mention of fitting the Series 3 flaps to D3s on the UK forum, but wonder if anyone has local and recent experience?

    mud flaps

    Hello all

    I lst both of my My05 S model rears on Fraser Island and the Strezlecki track. I have after market from aurobarn on the front and they are nearly five years old and still in good condition. The rear ones i replaced with 6mm insertion rubber and fitted the old metal bracket (minus the tab that goes back onto the underbody) with the original screws and one more inside as they are cut around the exhaust so give better coverage also. Thaey ahve been in the sand on Moreton and the gulf roads and are just great. I taper cut the outside to the shape of the ORE flaps and they look genuine from behind. All up $40 for the rubber and $10 for the front.

    I fitted some flexible ones that have the back reinforced with fibreglass but they are too flexible as the bottom outside corner soon became turned-out from flying gravel. They do a reasonable job but don't look very good. Perhaps insertion rubber would do a better job as long as it didn't curl like others I have made over the years for my RRCs.

    Maybe the genuine ones just need some extra vehicle height, dialed-in by a switch whenever required.

    Insertion rubber has not curled and being 6mm are quite firm yet flex enough over gutters and rocks. I had a pair on my old Patrol in Mt isa for 10 years and they were still good after 375000kms.

    After ripping my original rear mud flaps off I have fitted rear Defender mud flaps. Had to shape them a bit to fit but they sure work better than the originals and don't get damaged.

    Thanks for the flurry of responses - seems there are two choices for the rear flaps: Series 3 / Defender for something with LR badges, or aftermarket / homemade at somewhat less $. But for the front I've not seen any reference to Series 3 or any other flexible LR option that might be modified to fit. Logic says they must be out there, but haven't found them on the web - or I guess it's the aftermarket alternative again.

    Had another close look at the genuine ones again this evening - they really are a dopey design for anyone going into lumpy bumpy country. I wasn't even pushing it when I trashed mine - hooked it on a stump when reversing (and turning) in some scrub.

    I remove my OE mudflaps/spats whenever we go seriously offroad. They look good, but the price is extortion, and they do damage easily. The urethane sheet the rally cars use looks durable enough, and it is probably available in black. I will probably look at this material or a soft flexible rubber for off road use.
