I don't even turn-up the fan in my D4 though as the external shape of the rear pillars and roof of the vehicle doesn't create much of a low-pressure area behind the rear, unlike the D2 that loves to suck dust up particularly if not fitted with a dust deflector.

Correct, do not use recirc, unless in following dust (for as short a period as possible) it will try to suck unfiltered air in which is not what you want. The other trick is to partially block the air exit vents located at the rear of the vehicle to create more pressure. Perhaps someone has found where they are on the D3/4 I have not gone looking yet. A bit of duct tape over before a trip does the trick.

Behind the rear lights. The have rubber one way flaps over them so if working correctly theu would explain why the D3/4 is so good at keeping dust out.

just finished the Gibb in a D3... that's a very fast dirt track these days. Dust was shooting out the holes in the rear seals and i could smell bull dust in the D3. couldn't see dust particles in the car though (you know when there is sunlight and you can see bits floating around in the sunlight)

switched to outside air when clear in front and then re-circ when on-comoing cars or following someone else. This might have limited the dust to the back but i didn't smell dust up the front using this method, so partially worked i suppose.
