fwiw ... it's only a D2a, and we live at stockton beach, but I clean out my a/f and air box every 2500km or so, and normally pull about 2-3 tablespoon of sand out of the bottom of the airbox with the dustbuster .... no snorkel ... a/f element doesn't hold sand as airflow is up, sand falls into bottom of airbox ... still have plastic inner guards so intake is sheilded ... but it still gets some sand!

    Get a snorkel !

Thanks Fluid. I was wondering how difficult it actually was to clean it on a regular basis.

    Not difficult at all.

It probably takes me all of 10min. Disconnect a couple of leads from MAF & a vacum line from the airbox, undo a s/s hose clamp to release the airbox hose that goes to the turbo, unclip the MAF, unclip the airbox lid, remove a/f and tap out, vacum out the sand, wipe down all the dust on the inner surfaces of both sides of the airbox, clean the MAF with some CO Contact Cleaner, and re-assemble.

I can't imagine that the D3 would be much more, if any.

    Cheers

That's why we missed you.... all the technical guff here gets a bit tedious, albeit neccessary, and is nice to liven it up a bit and keep things light...... we all know all too well how life gets in the way of important stuff (LRs that is) either way, good to have you back!

It might also be a good idea to show him this site as well.

Without knowing the source of the snorkels, I can't be sure it is relevant, but it might be.

I missed the regular changes to the avatar. Can we expect an updated avatar soon now that you are back?

Awww boys, I've gone all marshmallow-y inside. What a lovely thing to say Disco Saffa, thank you (where is that huggy emoticon, you still haven't got one of those? pfft!).

vnx205 I will go right now and find a new avatar just for you , LOL. By the way, that's a very interesting site you've linked us through to. Who would have thought snorkels could be so different in quality?
