    Manual Transmission reports

    Hi all,

I know the vast majority of owners will have the auto. Its a great unit. There are however some of us who like shifting gears and enjoy being part of the truck. Some of us also like the long term reliability of a manual box. I am not suggesting the auto is not, but the manual should be a little better again.

Who here has the manual trans, or have driven it on and off road and what do you think. Who makes the box? Is the clutch long lasting (on the D2 the V8 clutch is a longer lasting item than the TD5 but dont know about the D3/D4).

Can you still buy the manual trans? I had the feeling they canned it for the 4.

    Cheers and thanks.

I have only ever seen and driven one manual D3. I believe they were available for a while in Australia as an option on S spec vehicles only (no air suspension / terrain response).

I thought the shift quality was not very good (rubbery) but I guess you would get used to it.

Thanks mate - maybe thats why they didnt sell in bigger numbers. People will only choose a manual these days if the shift is sweet. I quite like the shift in my D2, not a super slick jobby but positive enough.

    Cheers

As Jon said, were only available in the "S" variant.

WE have a customer at work that has a TDV6 SE who factory ordered it when he got his vehicle. (The only 1 i have seen, there may be some more around the country!)

I quite like the manual shift as it is very light for a 2.5T truck. "Rubbery" is a good way to explain it, but in due course (wear in) they do become a nice shifting gearbox.

The D4 manual in Aust was cancelled most likely due to sales numbers or lack of i suppose.

p.s. I think it is for sale too on carsales.
    found it...

Been there for quite a while - but he's lowered his price since I last looked.

If only I had the spare coin. I reckon the running gear out of that in my RRC would be great!
