General Grabber AT2 19"

Yes the British magazines are now advertising the availability of the GG AT in 18" and Jax Tyres will reportedly have stock within about 4 weeks so I have been told by a friend who has ordered a set for his D3.
I have 19" GG AT fitted to my D4 and just completed a trip into Elim Beach north east of Cooktown towing a 3.5 tonne Kedron caravan. The tyres performed very well and I am very pleased with them so far. Just wish I only had paid $280 each for them instead of $340 from another tyre detailer in Mackay

Not a good day today! I picked up what appears to have been a 1/4" bolt in the RLHS tyre of my D4SE last night driving home and by the time I noticed and stopped ( on the freeway) the tyre was hot. Investigation this morning found a cupful of shredded rubber inside the tyre. She is cactus!:(

I have only done 10,000km, so am not overly happy. I have done this in two months, so I expect to need a new set of boots by the end of the year, so my thoughts are to buy 4 new 19" Grabbers, fit one as a spare now, and fit the last three in December before the old set are so worn that they are of no use as emergency un-mounted spares.

It seems to me that it may be a good idea to carry at least one spare un-mounted tyre on any interstate trip, givent the scarcity of spares in remote locations.

Does anyone know of a supplier of 19" Grabbers in WA?

Alternatively, does anyone have a single used Goodyear Wrangler 255 55 19 that they will to part with?

I have no spare tyre until I fix the problem.

We are the other Disco4 that XOA ran into at Elliot falls. We got talking after seeing each others D4 with the 19" Grabbers on. We have just completed Sydney to the Cape towing out 3.5 ton van. No punctures and had them over most sort of terrain, mud on Creb track, sand on Fraser Island, everything from sand to sharp looking rocks on the dirt from Cooktown to the tip and the excursion up the the bottom half of Old Telegraph Track. I was running 30 psi front and 34 psi rear on the dirt until I ran into XOA. He had been running 20psi front and 25psi rear, so after that I ran 22psi front and 28psi rear for the rest of the trip. This was a bit smother on the corrigations and the rims had no damage. The bead protecting the rims seems like a good thing.
So i am happy with these tires as well.

Disco4now, XOA and ourselves must be about the only D4 owners driving around Aus at the moment - we D4 folk are thin on the ground in the outback.

My 19in GG AT's now have 20K kms on them, 12000 of which have been on our long service leave trip from Melb up the centre, west to Broome and now east to north Qld.

We are towing a Jayco Swan camper trailer (1700kg loaded) and we've driving in and out of the Bungle Bungles, across the Savannah Way between Borooloola, hells Gate and lawn hill NP, Cape Leveque Road north of Broome. Dust and corrugations and rocks and gravel and more dust.

I am really pleased with the Grabbers and would recommend to anyone who needs a great off/on road tyre. We've run ours at 26psi (fronts) and 28psi (rears) and the corrugations have become bearable (Savannah Way was testing though) and the rocks etc have not damaged the tyres in any way HOWEVER I will admit that we are driving in a manner to ensure that the tyres and rims don't come to grief and the old Jayco (often slammed as poorly constructed but our only issue was a leaking shocker after the Cape Leveque road).

We'll test the tires some more when we get to Fraser island shortly (towing the Jayco) but they are looking like giving over 40000km without too much trouble but I will be interested in how they perform when they start to get worn (a set of Coopers i had we terrifying at 50% worn on my old Pathfinder)

Hi to any General Grabber AT (255/55/19) owners.

It seems most owners are very happy with the tyres on their trips.

I hope to be a D4 3.0lt owner soon so this time round I won't have the luxury of 2 set of wheels as I did with my D3 so I will compromise and fit GG AT's for town and off-roading. I have been using GG AT2 for 60K+ km and they have plenty of life in them still and kill the GY OEM's.

So I'm keen to know what type of economy you are getting around town with the D4 3.0lt fitted with GG AT's and in your opinion is the wear rate reasonable offering a long life (i.e. 60K + km)

We're waiting for the UK shipment to hit dry land. While it's been at sea, the price of the tyres have gone up by £15 each! How?? :eek:

I have bought a set of RR 19" rims of a vehicle wholesaler in Port Melbourne who "upgrades" wheels on a lot of the cars he gets through. These are what the Range Rover catalogue describes as their "offroad rims", so should be perfectly suitable for a set of GG's.

They cost me just $250 for the set & I have his card. I could contact him if you would be interested in this potential option when the time comes.

Can you see if your wholesaler has any 20002-2005 Range Rover 18" x 7.5" rims . Want one or two 5 spoke or split 5 spoke rims as spares. Or even one of each.
