Freelander Rear video screen install into D3

Finished my install of a set of Freelander DVD screens into the D3 the other day since our old Phillips twin screens died after too much bouncing up and down. The install itself is well documented here : DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - My Headrest Screen Modification Completed

I decided after looking around that importing a set of freelander headrests was the easiest way to go.
    Headrests cost $320
    Freight, $180
Set up of a UK Mail forwarder $25

    So around $500.00 all up

To drive it I bought a WDTV Mini from JB Hi FI for $50 and powered it using a DC - DC converter, the unit runs on 12 v so I may have been able to wire it direct but I had the converter lying around.

We have a WDTV in the lounge room for the kids to play digital media on so it was a simple matter to move the hard drive to the truck and attach under the seat with sticky velcro. I may buy a new HDD for inside if it all works well.

The Freelander kit comes with two pairs of IR headphones

The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is that the colour of the headrests is a little different. I could fit the screens into the originals but this way I can put it all back the way it was if we sell the disco. If you have any other colour interior other than Tundra the colours would match, there are a few colours available on Ebay UK. Tundra Freelanders have seats the same colour as the grab handles.

Tote, you could have them re-upholstered.
I took the ones out of my LC100 and had my upholsterer match the interior of my D4. You would know the difference.

To be honest the colour difference dosent bother me. I didnt cut the grab handles like on the disco3.co.uk install so I can always put it back to original in the future.

3500 KM later and I'm sold, soooo much better than the old arrangement with wires all over the back seat area and no DVDs to take along. The WD box worked well but dosent play quite as many file types as the more expensive unit. Will play .ISO files though as long as it understands the files inside.
    The headsets work well too.
