						The ecu uses the height sensor signals to determine the current height of the suspension whereas the compressor is caused to run by the ecu when more air is required for one or more air springs or the reservoir. There's no direct connection between the height sensors and the compressor.
There may have been a co-incidental compressor upgrade with either better water-proofing of the height sensors or the revised ecu/height sensor electrical relationship.

great post. Our MY08 TDV6 D3 has the dreaded amber suspension fault light and "suspension height, normal mode only" issue.
Not sure if it is compressor or a sensor or . . .
anyway thought I might get the compressor parts and pull it to bits regardless as the car has $155,000 km on it.
