Importing 19inch tyres from the USA, anyone else need any???

    Hi everyone,
We all know of the difficulties with 19 inch off road tyres and their availability in Australia. I have tried all the usual contacts and have only found 3 Mtr's in Australia (Melbourne). Even Barbagallo's don't have anymore stock and Goodyear themselves have stopped making the MTR. They have released the new MTR Kevlar but it's not made in 255 55 19 !!

There seems to now be only very limited stocks of the MTR's in the states so I have made arrangements to import some with the dollar being what it is. I can land the Wrangler MTR 255 55 19 in Melbourne for around $450 (this price will be reduced the more that are ordered)

The cheapest price I was given from any of the dealers or tyre companies was $550 and the prices went all the way to $600 plus from some of them. Depending on which state would have had them, I would also had to have paid freight on top as well!!

I'm bringing in 6 tyres which should save me about $600 to $800 in total. The contact in the USA said his data base search only recorded 174 of the 19 inch MTR's available, so I am looking to place my order asap. The turnaround for the order will be 3 weeks.

If anyone else is interested please let me know asap. And yes before you ask I have looked at the Pirelli's but they aren't that much more aggressive than the standard tyres so I am going with the G/Years.

    Cheers
    Noel

IMO the Pirelli's only advantage is their apparent stronger sidewalls.

I must have snapped up one of the last sets of Goodyar MTR 255 55 19s in Australia - got them from Barbagallo Tyres in Perth some time in September I think. Six of them for $495 each, fitted and balanced. Didn't realise they were so hard to get.
Only bought them for a trip to the Gibb River Rd next year.

So now I have tyres and rims all over the garage - 275 X 40 X ZR20 Pirellis on the car, the MTRs, and the original 19s fitted standard. Might have gone over the top a bit....
